Biography

Asst. Prof. Dr. Ezgi Şahin is a distinguished academic and clinician specializing in Women’s Health NursingMidwifery, and Reproductive Health. She holds a Ph.D. in Women’s Health Nursing, with deep specialization in sexual and reproductive health. Since 2022, Asst. Prof. Dr. Şahin has served as a faculty member in the Department of Midwifery at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Giresun University. Prior to this role, she held various academic and administrative positions, including program coordination and student mentorship, at Istanbul Atlas and Istanbul Arel Universities.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Şahin’s research portfolio integrates clinical expertise with evidence-based academic practice, focusing on sexual healthpelvic floor healthbirth trauma, and innovative labor management. She gained international recognition with her randomized controlled trial titled “Effects of HypnoBirthing Education and Oxytocin Massage on Labor and Postpartum Period”, which earned her the International Academic Awards – Best Researcher Award. Her multidisciplinary work also addresses the socio-cultural determinants of health, including gender studies, women’s poverty, and intercultural care practices.

Author of numerous book chapters and high-impact journal articles, Asst. Prof. Dr. Şahin actively contributes to the scientific community as a researcher and consultant in TÜBİTAK projects. Her background includes significant clinical experience in intensive care and emergency nursing, reinforcing her holistic approach to healthcare.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Şahin joins MAREINS as a domain expert to bridge the gap between Clinical Health Sciences and Information Systems. Within the consortium, she plays a critical role in the “Health Informatics” cluster by providing clinical validation for digital health solutions aimed at women’s health. Her expertise in reproductive health and socio-cultural determinants ensures that the information systems and decision support tools developed by the group are medically accurate, culturally competent, and user-centric. Asst. Prof. Dr. Şahin guides the research team in designing patient-oriented health technologies and analyzing clinical outcomes to enhance the quality of digital healthcare services.
