Management Research in Emerging Information Systems (MAREINS) was established in 2025 to enrich the academic knowledge of Management Information Systems (MIS) and build sustainable bridges between the field and its supporting disciplines. While all its members are academics serving at universities, MAREINS is an independent research group that operates without any institutional affiliation. Our primary motivation is to build a sustainable research culture beyond institutional boundaries—one where curiosity, collective reasoning, and diverse perspectives converge. MAREINS views interdisciplinary boundaries not as obstacles, but as enriching opportunities while exploring the organizational and societal impacts of information systems.
The fundamental principle that defines our group and shapes our working discipline is collective production. For a project or scientific publication to be included in the MAREINS portfolio, the primary criterion is the active and joint responsibility of at least two group members. This approach aims not only to increase the volume of research but also to establish knowledge transfer and academic synergy as a corporate standard. For us, the true value of a study lies in the intellectual contribution generated by our members working in unison.
The research universe of MAREINS is extensive and goes far beyond what the group’s name might suggest. While our primary focus and core expertise lie in the health discipline (health informatics, economics, and management), our scope reaches much further. Any study featuring two or more of our members is directly included in the group’s portfolio, regardless of the specific topic. This flexibility allows us to operate across a broad spectrum—from clinical research and psychosocial findings to digital culture and advanced technological applications. Our mission is to explore the multidimensional nature of information systems and their impact on every aspect of life through this collaborative model.
