He earned his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Quantitative Methods from the Institute of Social Sciences at the same university. Prior to his academic career, he served as an Internal Controller at Ziraat Bank (2006–2010). This professional experience allowed him to merge theoretical knowledge with risk analysis and auditing discipline, forming the foundation of the analytical rigor found in his academic work.
Prof. Dr. Alkan began his academic journey as a Research Assistant in 2010. He was appointed as an Assistant Professor in 2013, received the title of Associate Professor in 2017, and, due to his high academic productivity, was promoted to Professor in 2022. He is widely recognized as a primary reference in Turkey for expertise in Categorical Data Analysis, Count Data, Spline Regression, and Multivariate Statistical Methods.
Going beyond theoretical modeling, Prof. Dr. Alkan approaches complex social issues through a mathematical lens. His research on public health, health economics, socio-economic dynamics of violence against women, poverty analysis, and digital literacy has been published in the world’s most prestigious (Q1 and Q2) journals, such as BMC Public Health, Frontiers in Public Health, PLOS ONE, BMC Geriatrics, Asian Economic and Financial Review, and the International Journal of Social Economics. Through these high-impact publications, he directly contributes to the generation of “evidence-based policy” in social sciences.
He successfully implements innovative techniques such as text mining, machine learning, and AI-based bibliometric analyses in projects supported by TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye). Frequently honored with International Scientific Publication Incentive (UBYT) awards, Prof. Dr. Alkan currently serves as a faculty member in the Department of Econometrics, Division of Statistics, at Atatürk University.
